People demanding the resignation of the Sri Lankan cricket administrators

Cricket lovers disappointed

Cricket is the most recognised sport in Sri Lanka. No matter whether they win or lose, they love cricket. After India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, most cricket-addicted people are living in this beautiful country.

This colourful nation warship cricket is at the bottom of their hearts. They smile and enjoy winning. At the same time, they cry and get angry when losing. But never behave rudely against players or officials. This cricket-loving country always accepts win or loss and keeps faith in the players.

Sri Lankan people have lived in a deep economic crisis over the last two years. Still, they are trying to come out from the painful memories they had previously. Inflation went up high to the moon with lightning speed. Food prices are rising day by day. Other essential things are the same. Most people live under the poverty level, according to the reports. They have no nothing to enjoy in life without spending money. But only cricket.

Golden time of Sri Lanka cricket

Sri Lanka had one golden time in their cricket history. That was 1996. It was the first time they won a cricket crown. After that colossal achievement, Sri Lanka cricket reached the highest level in the cricket world. No one believed this small country could come to this level. But it happened.

That was not a one-day revolution. It is not a miracle. Many people have given their sweat, money, and even time to this lovely sport from the beginning of decades until they won the 1996 World Cup with Arjuna and the clan. Remember that some other people helped achieve that victory.Ana Punchihewa was the president of the cricket board in Sri Lanka. Dave Watmore was the leading coach, and many more helped them. Unfortunately, these cricketers got nothing from cricket. Money! Noway.Just a few dollars. But they played cricket from the bottom of their hearts. They played cricket for the pride. And they have had beautiful tears while lifting the world crown for the first time.

AFTER WINNING THE WORLD CUP

After that proud movement, Sri Lanka cricket had a good and bad time, though. Wins and loses. Until 2018, the Sri Lanka team had won many trophies.

They had world-class players: Batters like Sanath and Mavan, bowlers like Murali and Vaas and best-ever fielders like Mahanama and Dilashan. These players fought hard to keep Sri Lanka cricket on the top forever. They later joined Sangakkara Mahela Jayawardena and Dilshan, the great batters in the world.

After Sri Lanka won the World Cup, the administration body suddenly changed.Ana Punchihewa kick out by Thilanga Sumathipala. That was the time Sri Lanka cricket started to fall apart. Thilanga and his team invaded the whole Sri Lanka cricket world.

Power greedy people

Thilanga has all the power to do that. Money, family background, plus political power keep him high. He became a godfather of Sri Lanka cricket. No one could not attack him. Early on the stage, the Thilanga party and Jayantha Darmadasa party fought each other. But later, the Darmadasa clan gave up.

Until today, these particular people run Sri Lanka cricket. Some people like Arjuna Ranathunga tried to fight with them. But he also failed.Thilanga changed everything in the cricket body. He changed the name of the Board of Control Cricket in Sri Lanka to Sri Lanka Cricket and built an empire in Maitland Place.

These money and power-greedy people do not want to play cricket in high. They chased money instead of cricket. After that invasion, Sri Lanka cricket became one of the most corrupt institutions in Sri Lanka.

According to the present sports minister of Sri Lanka, Roshan Ranasinge, millions of dollars disappeared from Sri Lanka’s cricket.

This is not money that came from the personal accounts of administrators. It’s only just earned from players who are playing international cricket hard.

What append today

Today, what happened to Sri Lanka cricket? They are shamelessly out of the World Cup. That is not a player’s fault. The selection committee, along with cricket president Shammi Silva and the coaches, should take responsibility for this.

With the extreme defeat against India in the World Cup, the cricket organisation and its officials faced a lot of trouble. The cricket fans are not ready to tolerate this time as they have experienced the defeat in the past. Protests have started demanding the immediate departure of the Cricket Institute.

Anti-riot police officers stand guarding the cricket establishment while the protestors protest peacefully. The only demand of the activists is that everyone, including Shammi Silva, should leave their posts. They also requested that the sports minister dissolve the cricket administration and form an interim committee.

people are frustrated

Playing with the patience of people frustrated with what has happened in cricket over the years has started to overflow. It has been reported that Mohan de Silva, who is working as a secretary, will resign. But people say there is no point in him quitting, and all officials should leave. This suspicion of people is fair because cricket administrators are very good at such tricks.

However, what must happen is happening. The empire of cricket administration is crumbling. To stay longer in the face of continuous defeats is to anger the people. It is not the welfare of the administrative officers that the people want. They want their country to have a game of cricket that always wins. All cricket lovers aim to regain the pride that the country got in 1996. It is a characteristic of an educated man to bow down to it and leave his position with dignity.

Cricket has no personal heirs. It belongs to the people of the country. Cricket officials, as well as players, should remember this fact. Therefore, they should win at least the remaining two matches in the World Cup. Otherwise, Sri Lanka will lose the Champions Cup in 2025.
