Kenya’s Nelson Amenya Takes a Stand Against Adani: A Powerful Challenge

Who is Nelson Amenya? People around the world are currently searching for information about this unknown individual. A Kenyan national, he is now in Paris after relocating from Kenya due to safety concerns. Amenya has stated that he left Kenya because his life was threatened. Discussions are underway regarding a $2 billion corrupt transaction allegedly involving billionaire businessman Gautam Adani. The key figure who made these revelations is none other than Nelson Amenya.

A Concerning Revelation.

This was a very disturbing revelation. Following this announcement, the Adani business faced significant challenges and instability. Additionally, Kenyan politics reached a turning point. Previously, it had been decided to lease the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to Adani for 30 years. However, after Nelson Amenya’s revelations, that deal was completely cancelled.

Kenyan President William Ruto addressed the country’s parliament, declaring the cancellation of the agreement to cheers from members of parliament. The world’s attention was also drawn to Amenya’s statement: “As a patriot, I took action to prevent the destruction of the country.” He emphasised that Kenya should avoid engaging with one of the most corrupt companies in the world. Amenya added, “Even the Indians praised me for exposing this corrupt deal.”

The lease of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport has ignited considerable debate and controversy. This situation arose because the transaction was reportedly conducted without transparency and a competitive bidding process. Nelson Amenia’s revelations contributed to these circumstances and ultimately resulted in the cancellation of the agreement. Some individuals also believe that this case is an example to the world.

A 62-year-old Adani is facing a bribery case

Adani, 62, one of India’s wealthiest individuals, was charged with bribery in the United States last Wednesday. Notably, this announcement coincided with revelations made by Nelson Amenia. The US case significantly supported Amenia’s claims, as indicated in the indictment filed in New York. Lawyers have accused Adani and several senior executives from his company of paying over $2 billion in bribes to Indian officials over 20 years to secure contracts for renewable energy projects.

In 2020, Adani entered into a solar panel project with an American company in collaboration with the Andhra Pradesh government in India. This deal is valued at $6 billion. Former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Jagan Mohan Reddy, is reported to have received a portion of a bribe, although he has denied these allegations. A lawsuit in the United States, based on the bribery allegations related to this project, has become a notable case. Following the public disclosure of this information, Adani’s share price reportedly declined. Some reports suggest that the losses incurred by the company in this situation have been estimated at $34 billion.

Rahul Gandhi is opposing Adani

Lawyers have indicated that various pressures have been exerted on the investigations of the bribery incident, resulting in delays in filing the case. They noted that the United States began investigating the Adani Group in 2022. These allegations against Adani have also negatively impacted the Indian government, partly because Adani is a close associate of the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. It is widely acknowledged that when Modi became Prime Minister in 2014, he travelled to Delhi on a plane provided by Adani.

Indian opposition leader Rahul Gandhi has consistently highlighted the corrupt dealings of the Adani Group. In March of last year, he stated in the Indian Parliament that Rs 200 billion had been invested in the Adani Group through shell companies. The Adani Group is primarily known for its operations in the infrastructure sector. Gandhi questions how the company could amass such a significant amount of money. He emphasised, “We need to investigate this money. We must determine who it belongs to and the connection between Prime Minister Modi and Adani. Prime Minister Modi is now afraid to hear what I have to say. When I mention Adani, his fear is evident on his face,” he remarked in Parliament.

Projects in Sri Lanka that the Adani Group is requesting

On June 13, 2022, M.M.C. Ferdinand, the Chairman of the Ceylon Electricity Board, resigned from his position, accusing Adani of interfering in projects in Sri Lanka. During a parliamentary committee meeting on public works, he revealed that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had pressured President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to award the proposed wind power project in Mannar to Adani. Ferdinand’s statements were highly controversial; he claimed that Former President Rajapaksa had insisted on giving the Mannar wind power project to Adani, stating, “This is what Indian Prime Minister Modi is saying; he is forcing me to give this.” Opinion leaders discussing this matter emphasise that this situation exemplifies how the Indian Prime Minister directly advocates for Adani.

Adani has signed an agreement with the Sri Lankan government to develop a 500 MW wind power project in Mannar and Poonamallee. In September 2021, the Adani Group also finalised agreements for the joint development of the Western Container Terminal at Colombo Port. As a result, the Adani Group holds 51% of the shares in this venture. The shares are allocated as follows: 34% are owned by John Keells, the Adani Group’s local partner, and 15% are held by the Sri Lanka Ports Authority.

The investment amounts to $700 million. However, the agreements made with Adani have been cancelled due to the political changes occurring in Sri Lanka following the appointment of Anura Dissanayake as President. It remains uncertain whether the Indian government is willing to suspend the investment fully.

Adani captivated the world with a remarkable achievement of Rs. 100

Gautam Shantilal Adani is not just an ordinary individual. He was one of seven children in his family and exhibited remarkable diligence from a young age. Adani approached everything he did with enthusiasm. Although the family business was thriving, he had bigger dreams beyond his father’s support. His father provided him with only his blessings and one hundred rupees. Along with this, Adani received the addresses of relatives living in Mumbai. Determined and ambitious, he arrived in Mumbai with just one hundred rupees. Ultimately, this young man achieved tremendous success and made a mark on the world, showcasing his exceptional talent.

Twenty-year-old Gautam moved to Mumbai from Ahmedabad and became involved with a well-known businessman in the diamond trade. For the first two to three years, his job was to sort diamonds. After that, he started his own diamond brokerage business. Within the next three years, he entered a new phase and became a millionaire in the diamond industry when he was almost 30. Gautam, who began his journey this way, has joined the ranks of the world’s richest people.

The situation has changed dramatically since Donald Trump was elected President of the United States. As soon as Trump took office, Adani congratulated him on social media and expressed his readiness to invest $10 billion in the United States. However, the circumstances have shifted. Adani is now facing accusations of bribery. Therefore, the New York case and Adani’s future will need to be addressed in the upcoming discussions.
