The rescue of the 41 workers trapped in a tunnel in the Indian state of Uttarakhand is further delayed. This situation has arisen due to several obstacles, including the failure of drilling machines inserted into the tunnel. This land belonging to the foothills of the Himalayas is known as “Deva Bhoomi”. It is a footstep of God. Many unique religious places, including Hindu temples, are in this area, a supreme land of Hindu devotees. The Yamunotri Temple, situated at a very high place, is dedicated to the Goddess Yamuna. Also, the river Yamuna originates from this area. The distance from Uttarkashi Nagar to Yamunotri Hindu Temple is nearly 130 km. When the number of people travelling between those areas is increasing daily, the authorities focus on developing transportation facilities that can quickly come from Uttarkashi to Yamunotri. Accordingly, the state government made plans to build a tunnel between Silkyara and Dandalgaon and provide express way facilities to the devotees. Accordingly, this tunnel can be part of a planned highway project. Indian authorities say that after this tunnel’s construction and the road project’s completion, the distance between Yamunotri and Uttarkashi will be reduced to about 20 kilometres, and it will be possible to travel between those places in a very short time.
Suddenly, the tunnel flattens out
A group of people carrying out the tunnel construction are facing this incident and are still stuck in the tunnel. Many workers from different areas are engaged in constructing this road project, and suddenly, in the last 12 days, a part of the under-construction tunnel broke and flattened to the ground. It is planned to construct the tunnel on one side only. Rescuing the workers trapped in the tunnel has also become very difficult as operations have to be launched from only one side. However, there is an opinion that nature will stop such constructions on a god’s site. Many people have objected to this construction, which is destroying the environment.
Risk of another landslide during operations
However, India’s Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Center says rescue operations are underway for the trapped people. Several organizations, including the Army, are carrying out these operations together, and steps have also been taken to supply oxygen through pipes to the places where the 41 workers are believed to be trapped. The Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Center said that the situation became more severe with the appearance of landslides in another place due to the excavations being carried out to rescue the people. Meanwhile, several mining machines have also been disabled.
Everyone is OK – all surprised observation
On the last 21st, the excavation teams made a notable observation with the help of cameras. The observation, carried out with a camera inserted through a hole, revealed that all the trapped workers were alive. However, it has been confirmed that they are exhausted. In this situation, measures have been taken to speed up the excavations and expand rescue operations. However, the Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Center says all activities must be done by paying attention to dangerous situations. With the accurate confirmation of their location, it has been possible to direct urgent needs, including food and medicine, to them through pipes.
One hope
However, everyone hopes that this group will be rescued safely. The program that has been launched for that is also more extensive. The members of the families of the trapped people are also currently watching the excavations taking place in the tunnel. They worship God from that place. There is nothing they can do but ask God to spare the lives of their master, brother, father. They have to seek God’s blessings to complete the rescue operations and save the lives of their relatives.
