Is ‘From’ the New ‘Lost’? A Look at Season 3’s Thrilling Episodes

The third season of “From” will be released in the UK on January 14, 2025. As usual, Sky has acquired the broadcasting rights. However, the third season of “From” was released in the US in September 2024. The UK release has been delayed, so “From” is currently available to watch online.

First Season: Setting the Stage for Mystery

The first season of “From” began in 2022. In my opinion, it wasn’t that successful of a series. After finishing the first season, I felt nothing particularly special about it. However, due to my preference for mystery-oriented TV series, I also watched the second season. While watching the second season, I noticed similarities to the previously watched series “Lost,” which sparked some interest in continuing to watch. Nonetheless, even by the end of the second season, I didn’t feel much curiosity about “From.” Thus, my interest in the series wasn’t very high.

Evolution of Interest

However, driven by my appetite for mystery series, I was compelled to watch the third season’s first episode. After viewing that season’s first episode, I became addicted to “From.” By the end of the third season, if you were to ask me how much I was addicted to it, I would say I was enthusiastically awaiting the arrival of the fourth season.

Why did I suddenly develop such an affinity for “From”? In reality, the third season of “From” is much more advanced than its first and second seasons. All ten episodes of this season create curiosity cohesively.

Direction and Writing

Writer John Griffin captures the narrative quality well, allowing viewers to engage thoroughly with the series’ horror elements. Additionally, the third season features the most episodes, totalling 16, directed by Jack Bender in the whole series.

Key Themes and Comparisons

Regardless, the third season of “From” has become notable under the firm direction of Jack Bender and other directors. I think “From” stands out somewhat more than “Lost.” However, “From” is still ongoing, and it’s uncertain how many more seasons might follow. The first three seasons of “Lost” were significantly intriguing. However, by the final season, it hadn’t been as successful.

Yet, “From” is different from “Lost.” The reason is that “Lost” engaged viewers right from its first season. In contrast, I initially didn’t think “From” would have multiple seasons. However, after viewing the third season, my perspective changed.

Highlights of Season 3

One of the most striking scenes in the third season of “From” is when a character goes down in a bottle tree to escape from the town but gets stuck on the swimming pool wall. I found this scene profoundly horrifying. The way the character moves through the bottle tree and collides violently with the pool’s wall is strikingly terrifying, especially when I add the extra shots in the middle of the scene.

This scene resonates for another reason: ”Boyd” had the opportunity to help him escape, yet he let it serve as a lesson to the other people trapped in the mysterious town. This is an excellent example of conveying a message to individuals who don’t understand a situation through mere words but need to witness it practically instead.

Ultimately, I foresee the fourth season of “From” being even more delightful. In horror-oriented series like this, the creators are responsible for bringing forth fresh and surprising visuals that meet viewer expectations. Often, as the series progresses, the story gets boring for the audience.

Regardless of how lacking in credibility a plot might be, the writer should have the experience to present it as a reality for the audience. To achieve this, they must bring the story forward in a manner that consistently surprises viewers. This was successfully achieved in the third season of “From.”

Furthermore, I noticed that certain scenes from the “From” series resemble some scenes from “Lost.” A notable example is the scene of ”Tabitha” going to the real world through the lighthouse and coming back in an ambulance. Similar scenes were also found in “Lost.” The difference lies in how they unfold in varied ways.

Final Thoughts

Nonetheless, “From” can undoubtedly be recommended as a must-watch TV series. It will be available in the UK from January 14 onwards through Sky Max Channel and Now TV, a subsidiary of the Sky group.
