Hasaranga was disciplined for violating the ICC Code of Conduct

Wanindu Hasaranga, the T20I captain of Sri Lanka, has been suspended from participating in two international matches following the accumulation of five demerit points within a 24-month period, as per the ICC Code of Conduct. This suspension was imposed after Hasaranga’s latest breach of conduct, for which he received a 50 per cent fine and three demerit points.

Hasaranga banned for two T 20

Hasaranga has been found guilty of violating Article 2.13 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. This article pertains to the personal abuse of a player, player support personnel, umpire, or match referee during an international match.

Consequently, Hasaranga has incurred five demerit points, translating to two suspension points. Under the suspension points system, a two-point penalty corresponds to a ban from one Test or two ODI or T20I matches, whichever occurs first for the player or player support personnel.

Consequently, Hasaranga has been suspended for Sri Lanka’s first two T20Is against Bangladesh next month.

Hasaranga vs Hannibal

Following the conclusion of a recent match between Sri lanka and Afganistan, there was an altercation involving Sri Lankan cricketer Wanindu Hasaranga and umpire Lyndon Hanibal. Hasaranga confronted the umpire to express his dissatisfaction with a decision made during the match.

Wanindu Hasaranga has since admitted to the offences arising from the incident and has accepted the sanctions proposed by Chris Broad, a member of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees.

It is worth noting that there will be no formal hearings held in relation to the incident, given that Hasaranga has accepted the sanctions proposed to him. It is hoped that this will bring a swift resolution to the matter and allow both parties to move on from the incident.

The charges were leveled by on-field umpires Lyndon Hannibal and Raveendra Wimalasiri, third umpire Ruchira Palliyaguruge, and fourth umpire Ranmore Martinez.

If a Level 2 breach is found, a player may face a penalty of between 50 to 100 per cent of their match fee and three or four demerit points. For Level 1 breaches, the minimum penalty is an official reprimand, while the maximum penalty is 50 per cent of a player’s match fee, and they may receive one or two demerit points.
