The 2023 Cricket World Cup is getting very intense. So far 8 matches have been completed. Today is the 9th match between India and Afghanistan. This match will be held at the New Delhi Stadium. A very green pitch has been given for today’s match.
In previous matches, such grassy pitches were not seen. Apart from the match between India and Australia and today’s match between India and Afghanistan. the batsmen were given very suitable pitches for all other matches. In all those matches, all the teams managed to get a huge total.
In the match between Sri Lanka and South Africa, both teams scored 754 runs. In the match between Sri Lanka and Pakistan, both teams scored 689 runs, in addition, New Zealand and the Netherlands, New Zealand scored 322 runs. Also England and Bangladesh, England scored 364 runs.
But the match between India and Australia changed somehow in that match. Australia could score only 199 runs, the match became a bowler’s match completely, because of the low runs scored by Australia, it was not difficult for India to win the match, they won the match by losing only 4 wickets.
After the match was over, there was some kind of criticism about the pitch that was used for that particular match . Was the pitch prepared to benefit India? Also, for today’s match between India and Afghanistan, a very grassy pitch has been provided. This pitch is completely different from the previous pitches.
There is a clear doubt as to whether the pitches are being prepared to benefit them for the matches. If so, then the International Cricket council is responsible for this. Setting up the pitches to benefit only one team is a great injustice to other teams.
This year’s tournament is being held in India, therefore, if this plan is made to win the World Cup for India, it will cause a lot of damage to the game. If India takes unnecessary advantages as the powerhouse of the cricket world, it is also a serious mistake.
Such an incident was also reported in the Asia Cup held before the start of the World Cup. That is, getting an extra day only for the match between India and Pakistan, even the former Sri Lankan captain Arjuna Ranatunga questioned this. Arjuna’s argument was that it was a violation of the rules during the tournament and therefore the Sri Lankan team was at a disadvantage. Arjuna further said that otherwise Pakistan would be eligible to play in the Asia Cup final.
Looking at these events, there is reasonable suspicion that India will exert unnecessary influence in the World Cup, however, it is still too early to talk about this accusation. India has played only 2 matches and 7 more matches are to be played in the future. Therefore, it is very important to pay attention to the pitches provided for future matches in which India will participate.
