If someone asks how many continents there are in the world, another person’s answer is that there are 07 continents. That is the true answer. However, there was serious talk about a missing continent, and it was a prophecy from the time of Aristotle. Ptolemy has also pointed out that one continent that represented the globe has disappeared. It is the 8th continent in the world.
Some argued that this vast land, which was discussed at various times under the name of “Unknown Land of the South”, was imaginary. The conversation regarding this continent was also powerful due to a discovery made by Abel Tasman, a Dutch explorer. Around 1650, he had indicated that the continent might be located near New Zealand.
Taking into account ancient prophecies, allegories, beliefs, etc.,
The search for the missing island began, and as a result, the scientists of the Geological Institute of New Zealand managed to present a clear picture of the location of the lost island with the help of a detailed map. This experimental process has been done by focusing on a lot of information including rock samples taken from the ocean floor.
The size of “Zelandia” that has been erased from the earth is about 1,000,000 square kilometres.
Researchers indicate that the total area of the continent is five million square kilometres. The disappearance of this continent known as “Zelandia” is due to the complete submergence of its land. Geologists point out that 50 million square kilometres of land belonging to the continent of “Zeelandia” has been completely submerged, leaving only the islands of New Zealand, the French territories of New Caledonia, Lord Howe Island and Ball’s Pyramid.
However, as a result of scientific studies, geologists have managed to map the approximate location of that continent. They have indicated that there are more areas that should be included in this map. Therefore, they have mentioned that the map created so far is not the complete map.
Geologist Nick Mortimer is the pilot of this new study. The scientists have said that although the problems regarding the location of the land parts of the “Sealandia continent” spread over fifty million square kilometres have not been solved so far, they have managed to create a successful map by matching the conditions to the maximum. Studies conducted on rock samples and mandi studies have particularly led to the identification of how the land was laid out.
Here’s how the scientific tests went.
In 1995, American geologist Bruce Lyndike’s discoveries led to the identification of the continent of “Zealandia”. The discoveries made by the Scottish scientist Sir James Hector, who explored the islands off the south coast of New Zealand in 1895, also revealed the fact that there was a large island in this area. He pointed out that New Zealand is the high area of a continent that extends to the south and east and that it is a remnant of a mountain range. The region surrounding New Zealand has been described as a continent and given the name “Zelandia” after considering the relevant facts.
The highest point in “Zealand” is “New Zealand”.
Scientists have shown that Mount Cook, the highest point in New Zealand, is also the highest point in the continent of Zealandia.
Meanwhile, an atmosphere has been created in which New Zealand is being recognized as a state belonging to a new continent. If such a situation occurs, it is a matter that world political commentators point out that New Zealand will have to be given the rights it should be entitled to according to international ocean laws and regulations. The UN Convention on the Law of the Sea will also contribute to it. However, New Zealand needs to prove that it is part of a more enormous continent. If there is such a scientific recognition, the land area of New Zealand will increase six times, according to international analysts.
