Due to the scientific discovery of a highly poisonous fish, the people in the southern sea areas of Sri Lanka are panicking. The number of fish species roaming in the South Seas has yet to be discovered. Investigations conducted so far have revealed that this species of fish lives in the sea areas near the Galle Lighthouse.
This species of fish is known as Stonefish. It has been observed that they are invading the Galle lighthouse and the nearby sea areas. The sea area is a tourist attraction, and many local and foreign tourists use this sea area for bathing and recreation.
However, recreation in that area has created a dangerous situation, and since the stone fish is close to the shore at this time, the sediment to trample its body is high.

Explaining the facts in this regard, Dr. Janaka Reuben of Ruhunu Medical Faculty points out that the shells of this fish are very poisonous. Therefore, he has advised local and foreign tourists to wear shoes to the Galle lighthouse and the nearby beaches. Also, if diving in the sea, it is essential to wear two flippers.
A significant number of people enjoying themselves in the sea near the lighthouse have already been hospitalised. They have been admitted to Galle Karapitiya Hospital. Due to the sting of this fish, they are infected. Dr Reuben, who explained the facts, points out that the stone fish is not a new creature in Sri Lankan waters. However, that fish lives in the sea areas close to Australia, Indonesia and India. He said that this fish, which lives in the deep sea, comes close to the shore during the breeding season, and this risk arises during such times.

Also, this fish does not have the ability to swim or intentionally harm people or other animals, and stone fish has also been identified as a very slow-moving fish. It is also observed that the fish’s body is covered with moss and sand. Dr Reuben says that this can reveal how slow his journey is.
Also, there are 13 spines in the body of stone fish, which are highly poisonous. Dr. Reuben also points out that if those thorns are stepped on, it will cause unbearable pain.
If you get stung by this fish while enjoying yourself in the sea, the doctor advises you to come to land immediately, sit down and wash the stung leg with warm water, and then go to the hospital for treatment without delay. Stonefish, which has been identified as a fish that lives on rocks or inside rocks, can also be found on sand flats in shallow seas. This creature is difficult to identify because it looks like a stone.
