The Middle East is becoming increasingly insecure

The Middle East region is currently experiencing widespread fear and confusion. Tensions are escalating in the Middle East, particularly in the open conflict between Iran and Israel.

Since World War II, no one has achieved victory on a global scale, and although the world has enjoyed peace for several decades since then but conflicts such as the Russia-Ukraine war and the Israel-Palestine conflict are raising concerns about the possibility of a third world war.

The murder of Ismail Haniyeh

The assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh is a significant event. He was killed on the 31st in a rocket attack on the house where he was staying in Tehran, Iran.

The day before, on July 30, he had participated in the inauguration ceremony of the new president of Iran, Masoud Peseshkian.

Ismail Haniyeh also went to the Iranian Parliament on the same day and took part in a special conference held there.

After Haniyeh’s killing, a Hezbollah commander was also killed in Beirut, Lebanon. Israel accuses that this attack was carried out in retaliation for the Hezbollah rocket attack that killed 12 Druze youths and children in the Golan mountains.

Did Israel kill Haniyeh?

Iran claims that Haniyeh was killed by Israel, and Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has reportedly ordered an attack on Israel.

This has raised concerns about the possibility of a war between Iran and Israel in the Middle East. Israel traditionally does not comment on its foreign operations to the media.

However, there were previous statements from Israel indicating that it would take action against the Hamas leaders responsible for the deaths of 1200 Israelis and foreigners on October 7.

It has now been confirmed that Israeli jets fired rockets from outside Iranian airspace during the killing of Haniyeh.

This attack has drawn significant attention worldwide, and there are growing concerns about its potential political consequences.

Observers are paying close attention to the evolving situation in the Middle East. Critics warn that the attack could undermine efforts to establish a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and have a devastating impact on millions of innocent people.

Who is Ismail Haniye?

In the meantime, it’s important to understand who Ismail Haniyeh was. Was he a Hamas fighter? Many people have been asking this question, and some have pointed out that the deceased Ismail Haniyeh wasn’t an officer in charge of operations in the Gaza Strip.

However, it’s a fact that he played a key role as the head of Hamas in numerous negotiations in Qatar, the United States, and Egypt, and he was also present at the ceasefire talks in Rome a week ago.

Ismail Haniyeh was the head of the Hamas political bureau and the prime minister of the tenth Palestinian Authority government. Ismail Abdel Salam, also known as Abu al-Abd, was born in a refugee camp in Hani.

In 1989, Israel imprisoned him for 3 years. He was later exiled to Maj al-Zuhur, located between Israel and Lebanon, where he lived in limbo throughout 1992.

In 1997, he was appointed as the chief of office of Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, the spiritual leader of Hamas, and later became the Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority on February 16, 2006.

A year later, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas removed Haniyeh from his post, but Haniyeh insisted that his removal wouldn’t absolve him of his national responsibility towards the Palestinian people. On May 6, 2017, he was elected as the head of the Hamas Political Bureau.

It’s worth noting that he believed that the Israeli government, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, had no intentions of achieving peace, and some of his observations about Israel’s actions are proving to be accurate.

After Haniyeh’s assassination, a Hezbollah commander was also killed in Beirut, Lebanon, and it’s observed that Iran is using Lebanon as a safe haven for Houthi rebels in Yemen, as well as Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in the Gaza Strip and the Palestinian West Bank.

Hamas is a powerful organisation with several prominent leaders. Many of the leaders, who control the Gaza Strip, do not publicly appear, and when they do, they wear face masks to protect themselves from Israel’s assassination attempts.

Mohammad Deif, the leader of the Is al-Din al-Qassam Brigades (the military wing of Hamas), is responsible for planning the construction of a tunnel for Hamas fighters from Gaza to Israel. Israelis refer to him as the “man of death,” but for Palestine, he is seen as a mastermind.

The dark side of the Iran-Israel war

The dark side of the Iran-Israel war and its global risks are very serious. Economic analysts point outAlong with the current military situation, many countries will have to face the sanctions imposed by foreign countries in the future.

Export earnings are likely to fall sharply. There may be an increase in fuel prices. Also, the trade of crude oil and refined fuel imported by various countries may be affected.

Economic analysts are of the opinion that if there is a war between Iran and Israel, there will be an increase in the price of oil in the world market.

The Middle East region is an unsafe area

Meanwhile, many countries have named the Middle East region as an unsafe area. The Australian government has informed Australians to leave Lebanon as soon as possible.

As there is a risk of escalation of conflicts between Israel and the Hezbollah organisation, the government of the country has also warned the American people.

Britain has also informed its citizens to be aware of the possible serious situation in the Middle East region. The country’s government has said that there are about 15,000 Australians in Lebanon, and according to the 2021 census, about 500,000 people of Lebanese origin live in Australia.

Meanwhile, a large number of people from countries like Sri Lanka, India, and Bangladesh are engaged in various jobs including domestic work in the Middle East region.

The governments of the respective countries have paid attention to them, and the Sri Lankan government says that it is ready to take some decision regarding the Sri Lankan workers if such an unsafe situation arises.

Thus, it appears that an Iran-Israel conflict is not just a situation between two countries. If such a conflict were to occur, it would have an impact that would be felt throughout the world.

Sometimes it can be a situation that has more impact than the Covid-19 crisis and has serious effects economically. On the other hand, it will develop into a great tragedy that destroys human lives.

Therefore, at this time, it should become the request and insistence of the people of the world that the western countries including the United States and other states must rally to curb this danger. That is also the opinion expressed by commentators.
