Sri Lanka’s cricket team announced on Tuesday that all-rounder Charith Asalanka will lead the national side in the upcoming three-match Twenty20 series against world champions India.
This decision comes after the 27-year-old was chosen to replace Wanindu Hasaranga, who resigned as the captain of the T20 team following Sri Lanka’s disappointing performance in the recent T20 World Cup, where they failed to advance to the Super Eight stage.
The series between Sri Lanka and India will kick off with three T20 matches scheduled to take place in Pallekele starting this weekend, followed by three one-day internationals.

De Silva and veteran Angelo Mathews were not selected for the 16-man T20 squad, but Hasaranga secured a place.
