The England women’s team recorded a very easy victory in the first match of the one-day series consisting of 3 matches between the England women’s cricket team and the Sri Lanka women’s cricket team at the Chester-Lee-Street Stadium on September 9.
After winning the toss, England team decided to bowl first. The Sri Lankan women players, who are excited by the victory of the 20/20 tournament between the two teams, entered this match with great enthusiasm.
But they were not able to hold that enthusiasm for that long. England’s opening bowler Mahika Gaur succeeded in dismissing one of the best players in the Sri Lankan team, skipper Chamari Athapattu, when she scored 10 runs. Chamari Athapattu is the most performing player in the Sri Lanka women’s team these days. Everyone else is confident in her abilities. Therefore, Chamari’s early dismissal was a powerful blow to the Sri Lankan team.
As a result, Sri Lanka’s wickets started to fall very quickly. While everyone in the team went one after the other. Only Hasitha Samarawickrama tried to build a very good innings by holding one end. But when Hasita was dismissed as the 7th wicket, she was able to collect only 35 runs. At that time, the team had scored only 95 runs.
After that, it didn’t take long for the English girls to get remaining three wickets very quickly. In the end, the Sri Lankan team scored 106 runs with all the players out, and the England team had spent only 30.2 overs to give that score to the Sri Lankan team.
Debutant Mahika Gaur, who bowled superbly for the England women’s cricket team, managed to get 3 wickets for 26 runs. Her 3 wickets also included the wicket of Chamari Athapattu, the best player of the Sri Lankan team. Apart from Mahika, Sarah Glen and Lauren Filer managed to get 3 wickets each for the England team. England women’s cricket team reached their target very easily after opening their reply innings. They needed just 18 overs to reach the easy target of 107 they wanted.
